We have begun an After-School Project in partnership with Iglesia Bautista Escalando Peldaños located in La Romana. Below is a brief overview of the direction and preparation of this project.
1. Purpose and Vision
Children in low-income communities often experience delays in developing reading and writing skills. This can lead to lower academic achievement, reduced self-esteem, and an increased risk of dropping out of school. In particular, poor reading comprehension in early grades significantly increases the likelihood of academic failure and social vulnerability.
This project aims to support children in growing in a safe environment through structured academic assistance and professional education. In addition, through Bible study—one of the core subjects—we will teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
2. Target Group and Goals
The program will provide structured supplementary education for:
- Children aged 6–12
- Youth aged 13–17
Subjects include:
- Spanish (Language Arts)
- Mathematics
- English
- Music
- Bible
Goals (within 6 months):
- 40% improvement in reading fluency
- 30% increase in reading comprehension
- Development of basic writing and spelling skills
- Improvement in academic self-esteem
3. Operational Structure
- 40 children (3 classes)
- 20 youth (1 class)
- 4 teachers
- 1 administrative staff (management and evaluation)
- Operating hours: Monday–Friday, 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM (3 hours)
4. Teaching Method & Timetable
- Mathematics and English: 100% online classes
- Spanish, Music, and Bible: in-person classes
- Each day consists of:
- 50-minute classes
- 10-minute breaks
- 3 subjects per day
5. Ways for Sponsors to Participate
- Sponsor one child: CAD $20
- Sponsor a teacher: CAD $30
- Educational materials (pencils, notebooks, etc.): CAD $50
- Snacks (cookies, drinks, etc.): CAD $50
- Internet support: CAD $30
- Equipment donations (TVs, laptops, desks, etc.)
6. Expansion Plan (Year 2)
- Expand to 100 children
- Establish a community library
- Increase participation of university student volunteers
- Promote the establishment of a Christian private school

- Tuition: 500 pesos per student × 60 students = 30,000 pesos

8. Participation Agreement
- Students must commit to faithful participation in the program.
- If a student shows a lack of commitment three or more times, they will be immediately removed from the program.
- Both parents and students must sign a participation agreement acknowledging these terms.

6~12세 어린이들과 13~17세의 청소년들을 대상으로 체계적인 학습 보충 수업을 하게 됩니다. 구체적으로 국어(스페인어), 수학, 영어, 음악, 그리고 성경의 과목을 배우게 됩니다.
